a new year meme

Stirrup Queens and Sperm Palace Jesters posted this meme and tagged anyone who reads it to play along. The directions as the Stirrup Queen explains them: "[It] can be done in two different ways. Either you can do all seven categories and list two answers for every category (get it? It's 2007, so I'm playing on the two numbers: 2 and 7) OR you can choose two of the categories and list seven answers."

If you want to play, either leave your answers as a comment on this post, or post the whole thing yourself on your own blog (and leave me a comment letting me know so I can go look). I love these pay-it-forward memes!

The categories:
Things you learned this year
People you met
Things you don't want to take with you into 2007
Things you want to hold close as you pass into 2007
Things you're looking forward to in 2007
Things that were life changing in 2006
Things you hope to accomplish by the end of 2007

Oh--isn't it the worst about the hair? Neutrogena's deep conditioner helped stave some of it off. But the clumps... Oy. I cried a lot when I showered.

I was reading your 'we have daycare' announcement and I felt so sad for your baby. What is the piont in working your ass off so that you could pay someone else mother your child? What's the point of having a baby if your not taking care of him yourself? As a fashion accessory? A fad? A pet?

You need to be home with your child. You can pay millions to have the best care of your baby but you can NEVER pay enough to someone to love your child.

I think what your doing is wrong...and even you know it. Why place him in daycare when he's just a few months old? HOW CRUEL! Is your work more important than your baby? It seems like.

A mother is supposed to mother her child. I can't believe that you find satisfaction working for someone else than taking care of your own. 50 years from now, I bet you won't look back with regret and say 'I wish I worked more'. But you will look back and say 'I wish I was there when my baby needed me the most'.

I'm saying this because I care about you and your baby. Please reconsider. A baby needs it's mother especially during the most developmentally important time in it's life. 5 years isn't too long and before you know it your baby is off to school and wouldn't need you as much.

Love,
A passing mother

Umm, hey "passing mother," that's quite a guilt trip for someone YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. How dare you accuse Emilie of not being a kind, wonderful, loving mother when you've never even seen her with little Daniel. Well, I have, and let me assure you you're WAY off base. You obviously have some dseep-seated psychological "issues" you need to address. I suggest you check yourself into a psychiatric facility and do so, rather than projecting your own anger on to a woman you've never even met in such a passive-aggressive way. It furthermore doesn't escape me that you very carefully did not provide any identifying material with your nasty and mean-spirited comments.

Oh, and the proper contraction for "you are" is YOU'RE, not YOUR. Please remember this next time you leave rotten remarks on someone's blog.

Gee, and for a minute I thought my own mother had finally learned to post!

Dear Passing mother,

I just wrote a scathing reply and deleted it. It wasn't worth my wasted breath to argue with you. However, perhaps instead of insulting random people on the internet you should get offline and spend time with your kids. Emilie is a kind and loving mother who worked impossibly hard to have her child, to think she is neglectful or irresponsible is foolishness.

Emilie said...

Seriously ... just ignore her!

(But friends, feel free to send me your diatribes via e-mail if you feel the need to express yourself!) ;-)

Hey Lady, you're not welcome here and we don't want to see your nasty posts on this blog again. This is a poor example of evangelization because your message was not communicated in a Christ-like way and was illogical at the same time. I'm glad you're not my mother because you don't seem like a very good one.

That last one was from me, sorry I forgot to attach my name...

Emilie,
This is Cynthia.
I couldn't log on using my blog account, so I had to try it this way.
I am so sorry that woman thought it was okay to attack you, and in some ways me and every other mother who has her child in daycare.
Staying home with your child does not make you a better or worse parent than someone who doesn't.
My child is in daycare and I am so happy to know that he is safe, happy, loved, and educated while I have to work.
Maybe instead of using her Internet time to write that mean-spirited post, she should have been looking into some on-line English couses.

Now, with that said......
Let's get back to the original reason for this post......

Things you learned this year
1. I am a much better reporter and writer than I thought.
2. I'm a better cook than I thought. I'm a better parent than I thought I would be, though I am so much more lenient than I also thought I would be.

People you met
1. Tasha, a great friend, whose youth and outgoing spirit has been great for me and my son. I love hanging out with her.
2. It's sad I can't think of a single person I met in 2006 who was new to my world. Some of the men I've met are no longer in my life, so I can't add them. Oh well, a new friend is always a good thing.

Things you don't want to take with you into 2007
1.The current numbers that appear each morning on my bathroom scale.
2. My current debt.

Things you want to hold close as you pass into 2007
1. My son, Dion. I love him so much.
2. My mother. I love her so much, too.

Things you're looking forward to in 2007
1. My birthday bash that I am planning for myself in New York.
2. My move to the Chicagoland area.

Things that were life changing in 2006
1. The events on my job.
2. Searching for new job.

Things you hope to accomplish by the end of 2007
1. Hopefully, getting my greeting card business off the ground; getting my book published;
2. Possibly adding a second child to our family.
3. Getting engaged.
4. Adding a child to my family.

I like coming here and seeing someone who works as a Catholic publications reporter posting a link to a site called Stirrup Queens and Sperm Palace Jesters. It's refreshing. Seriously.

Hey all — since many of you stood up for me and checked to see how I was feeling about it, I thought I'd just say thanks for watching my back. Trust me when I say I didn't lose any sleep over "mother." Obviously, she doesn't know me at all, and I suspect her words say more about her issues than they do about my choices. More than that, I hope none of you, especially moms who have children day care, felt attacked by what "mother" wrote. I appreciated Cynthia's comment to that effect.

Carry on, and let's hope for peace from here on in!
