score

Driving through south Minneapolis today on my way to Vanessa's for play group, I spotted a "Free" sign taped to a play kitchen. I drove a few more blocks making mental calculations regarding the size of my Honda's trunk and wondering if I should turn around and go look. I did — and as soon as I got out of my car and looked at it, I knew I (er ... Daniel) had to have it! A man walking by with a cup of coffee in his hand offered to help me load it into the car, and I drove the rest of the way to play group with my trunk hood halfway up. When I got there, Vanessa managed to shove the kitchen all the way into the trunk, and we were set.

Totally worth it. Daniel had the best time with it this afternoon. (That's his actual lunch he's taking out of the refrigerator.)

Now we just need to decide where to put it. It can't stay in the front yard all summer, though I'm sure Daniel wouldn't mind.

Somehow, my real kitchen isn't nearly as fun as that one. :-)

THAT is cool.

I wish my husband had had one as a child...it may have helped him find his way around one as an adult :)

Perhaps you could tuck it in the back yard next to the zinnias?

What a score indeed. Gotta love the large plastic toys. My sister says someone in her neighborhood just drops them off in the alley behind her garage. Wouldn't that be nice?

That looks like a delicious lunch! Is it some sort of taco salad?

I know the euphoric feeling of scoring good. I found a skirt at Buffalo Exchange that is perfectly contoured to my body type. Much better than anything I've seen at the expensive stores, and only 12 bucks!

My grandsons' other grandma (always winner of the grandparent purchasing Olympics, I'm happy to report) bought them a kitchen set for Christmas a few years ago and they still play with it! But I'm tellin' ya ... these puppies are expensive! So you DID score.

Who knows? Maybe Daniel will be our next celebrity chef someday!

Those kitchens don't come cheap! I've seen them on Craigslist for over $50 (in pretty poor condition at that). What a great find!

Yes, I believe that is the Step 2 Little Helper's Kitchen. My son got one from his grandma and grandpa one Christmas. It is great, and he still loves it.

That is awesome! I spent way too much money on a new one and wished I could have found a 2nd hand one that was as nice as what you found!

Instead of spending money on all the fake dishes that are meant for those kitchens, You could hook him up with some old tupperware, measuring cups and plastic drink cups... Alex loves making me "coffee" and "pancakes".

There was an article in the Strib yesterday about how it's the "found treasures" season with people putting things out on the curb, and how these things usually disappear within 30 minutes. It's so great that you found this wonderful kitchen for Daniel!

I bought one of those at a yard sale in Greenville for Natalie and it was by far one of the most favorite toys by all tots who lived with and visited us there.

Man that was a score, plus it's so clean for being free. I've never found anything that 'good looking' for free.

I've also never given away anything that clean for free :)
