synchronized diving through 2-year-old eyes

... must be kind of scary.

We turned the Olympics on last night. Daniel watched the synchronized diving for a minute or two, and as soon as he grasped what was going on, he started to get distressed and began to cry, "I don't like it!" As far as we could tell, he was concerned about the people falling long distances into the water, disappearing, maybe. Steve turned off the TV and held him and explained, "They're OK."

"They're OK," Daniel repeated, and continued to repeat for the next 15 minutes as he walked around the house. "They're OK." "They're OK."

Hehe! I'm giggling to myself! It's always cute to be reminded what the world looks like to a toddler! I just think that the synchronized diving looks strange and lacks a "point." Someday you'll be able to remind him of that moment! Thanks for sharing with us!

Ohhh, what great empathy he shows! Daniel is such a great kid. Harry has been subjected to a lot of Olympics, too, but he seems not to have seen the diving. I wonder what he thinks of what he is seeing? I know the opening ceremony made quite an impact. Did Daniel see any of that?

Oh, that's so sweet! The poor little guy I'm sure was scared silly!
My 2 year old loved watching the diving last night... He woke up this morning and told me that he was going to be a "diber" when he "got big". And play "voll-balley" :)

Thinking of you often and sending my best wishes your way!

Hilarious and so sad at the same time ... what a sweet little guy to be so concerned! You should be proud!

He has such a tender heart!

I'll be cheering on Shawn Johnson tonight. She is such a dynamo!

Oh, what a sweet pea. But hey, maybe it's better he reacted this way, rather than attempt to high-dive himself!?

Aww.
We need to add sound effects to the Olympics for our Ben to enjoy them (and to let us watch them)
Synchronized diving goes something like this...
"Boing Boing flipflipflipflip twist twist SPLASH!"
Gymnastic floor routines are pretty much the same w/o the SPLASH! Try it.
It makes the Olympics even more fun!

What a sweetie. Unfortunately it gave Eva too many ideas - I found her jumping on our bed "dibing" - she even has the "swim start" down in the pool now.

I was just telling John how different your world looks through little eyes and we agreed that answering those questions is so cute and heartbreaking and eyeopening at the same time.

Sweet Daniel. They're ok.

Ha, that's funny. Bel said that only moms and dads could jump into a pool like that. Then she asked if Andrew and I would try it next time we go to the pool.

Poor Daniel ... the diving scared him! But if the diver looked at all like swimmer Michael Phelps, then I can almost forgive him ... Phelps is so good looking ...
