my flavor of the month

So Steve and I watched Atonement a couple of weeks ago — great movie, though very sad — and last night, Mom and I watched Becoming Jane (about Jane Austen's real-life love affair with Thomas Lefroy). Both movies star James McAvoy, one of the new, young stars out of Britain. Dreamy! And now I have a little crush ...

I was just Googling his name to find these photos, and lo and behold I also find out he played Tumnus the faun in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Cuteness!

He was amazing in The Last King of Scotlant as well. I luuuuurrrrrrrrve him. I think he's actually Scottish, not that it matters.

They always find the best-looking guys to play those Jane Austin roles. They remind me, and this guy does, too, as does Matt from the Bachelor, of my Jr. Yr Abroad Romance with David (who had to go to speech therapy as a kid and learned a very BBC/Masterpiece Theater dreamy accent). Ah, youth, but I wouldn't go back for a billion dollars.

I think he's Scottish, too - but that counts as British, right? (Just not *English.*) :)

Laura, I know what you mean ... I wouldn't go back, either.

There is a moment in Atonement (which also is a great book) when McAvoy is in his tux and looks full-on at the camera and his eyes are like the color of the ocean (so blue!); I felt like he was looking right through the screen at me!

While we're talking about British actors, my husband and I have become addicted to a bizarre sci-fi show filmed in Cardiff, Wales called "Torchwood." Its on BBC America -- just check it out, its weird, cheesy, and its openly gay main character will draw you in!

As my husband's Welsh cousin told him, it stars that "famous American actor" Jon Barrowman, who you've probably never heard of, but who is quite engaging.
