bring on the bald

I went wig shopping today ... and it was actually a blast! Who knew trying on new hairstyles could be so much fun? Luckily, there's a hair salon right around the corner from us whose owner is quite knowledgeable about wigs and helps quite a few chemo patients. She took one look at me and said, "I have just the wig for you." And she was right. After trying out the spectrum of blonde, redhead and brunette (and then some), the one she pegged for me from the start was my favorite, too. It's different enough from how I usually wear my hair that it feels fresh but not outrageously wierd. It feels light and summery — and more chic than anything I've managed to do with my real hair. I'm actually looking forward to wearing it! Here's a side view. It's all fake and very reasonably priced.

And here's my impulse purchase. I put it on and couldn't stop smiling and swinging my head around. I can't wait to wear this one to play group! (And hey, it even matches my tote bag!)

And for when I'm really in the mood to shake things up, I think I'll be sporting this little cap. ;-) (Don't click the link if you're easily offended.)

I love all three. Can we all wear the caps, too, in support of you?

Love all of them.

Who'd have though that I wouldn't be the only one with purple hair this year :)

I think you should get several inexpensive wigs (they don't even have to be real hair). Wear different ones for different occasions.

Just like Samantha!

Maybe you'll be asked to give a speech on a hot day, and you can say "Fuck it," toss the wig off, and the others in the audience will toss their wigs off too!

Don't be like me, who bought only one, really expensive wig, and tried to make it look I had never lost my hair. It caused an odd sense of depression I didn't need. Definately go with several, "obvious looking" wigs. Wear your cancer on you sleeve!

P.S. I LOVE the "offensive" caps.

Yay, you're gonna have the time of your life with all those do's! I LOVE the hat. Totally wear that one with pride. How many chances do you get to sport a great hairstyle without any work and having it last as long as you want? Rock and roll...

Great wigs, and the cap is fabulous! Your "chemo is your friend" attitude is so inspiring. Way to go! You are going to kick this cancer in the butt!!!

All are great. I love that you found a wig with a style that you may have never done on yourself otherwise. You are going to look fab!

Something a few people I know did that was kind of neat~
When the time comes that you are moving into the new do's, try to rubber binder some of your current hair and snip it off. When your hair does grow back, there is a likely chance that it will fell different...even better!

I do not own a hat like that 3rd one, but I do wear my Cancer Sucks shirt with great pride! We just might have to get you one of those.

Isn't it just the best to have shopping assistance? I hate jean shopping-- trying on 15 pairs and finding one or two that look OK. So for the past five years or so I only go to the Buckle, where they look at my butt and thighs and go "uh, huh, we got you, girl," returning with six pairs, three of which look fabulous.

I love all three of these looks. I have a couple wigs in my closet, too. They both started as Halloween costumes, but I love to wear them on occasion to surprise the hubby. One of my former coworkers had a purple one that I coveted! And with the Minnesota winter, that knit hat will come in handy, even after you've kicked this cancer's ass!

Super cute blonde/brown wig. You could get some interesting "accessories" to go with the purple wig...

I can't wait to see you in the purple one!! Well, ok, that doesn't sound right. I wish more than anything you didn't have to wear any wig at all. But in this case, I am excited to see you as a natural purple-head.

This was a fun post about a heavy topic: cancer and wearing wigs. Thanks for making light of this. You are brave.

I think I am going to get one of the hats for myself, just to show my undying love and support for you. I wish I'd had it at the Relay for Life (also in your honor) last weekend, although I think someone would have asked me to take it off. Kids were everywhere.
